For several years, one of the greatest fears of the world's legacy companies has been disruption by an Uber or Airbnb — an adroit new startup with a cheap, market-shattering idea. But a surprising new reality led by the confluence of big data and artificial intelligence has softened their anxiety, and made them think they — and not startups — are the new, new thing, according to a new study. And by "roar back", they mean "people will realize that framework of the week doesn't help"
Yeah, a study by IBM and Oxford found that old technologies are best. Next up, a study by Hansom and The Daily News find that "carriages are about to make a big comeback"

Experts have warned that despite the “feverish” trend towards adopting the adjustable desks, there is little solid evidence to support their use, as well as concerns they may do more harm than good. Back to my lie-down "desk" I go
I can testify to both of these being true. At least, that's my excuse for the second one.

I've worked with people who have had desks that can be used in a sitting or standing position; the desk has controls to raise or lower as needed. I suppose, for those that have 'standing only' desks, they could request chair with extreme extension to allow them to 'sit' at an elevated level. No harm there, not is there...

Consumer advocates and proponents of right to repair laws in 17 states have a new enemy to worry about. The Security Innovation Center, with backing of powerful tech industry groups, is arguing that letting consumers fix their own devices will empower hackers. If you outlaw screwdrivers, only outlaws will have screwdrivers

WSJ Feb. 24, 2018 [^]Quote: Until now, Apple has stored the codes only in the U.S. for all global users, the company said, in keeping with its emphasis on customer privacy and security.
While Apple says it will ensure that the keys are protected in China, some privacy experts and former Apple security employees worry that moving the keys to China makes them more vulnerable to seizure by a government with a record of censorship and political suppression.
“Once the keys are there, they can’t necessarily pull out and take those keys because the server could be seized by the Chinese government,” said Matthew Green, a professor of cryptography at Johns Hopkins University. Ultimately, he says, “It means that Apple can’t say no.” Gosh, what could go wrong >?
«... thank the gods that they have made you superior to those events which they have not placed within your own control, rendered you accountable for that only which is within you own control For what, then, have they made you responsible? For that which is alone in your own power—a right use of things as they appear.» Discourses of Epictetus Book I:12
