1. The lounge is for the CodeProject community to discuss things of interest to the community, and as a place for the whole community to participate. It is, first and foremost, a respectful meeting and discussion area for those wishing to discuss the life of a Software developer.
The #1 rule is: Be respectful of others, of the site, and of the community as a whole.
2. Technical discussions are welcome, but if you need specific programming question answered please use Quick Answers[^], or to discussion your programming problem in depth use the programming forums[^]. We encourage technical discussion, but this is a general discussion forum, not a programming Q&A forum. Posts will be moved or deleted if they fit better elsewhere.
3. No sys-admin, networking, "how do I setup XYZ" questions. For those use the SysAdmin[^] or Hardware and Devices[^] forums.
4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion. This is a community for software development. There are plenty of other sites that are far more appropriate for these discussions.
5. Nothing Not Safe For Work, nothing you would not want your wife/husband, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your mother or your kid sister seeing on your screen.
6. Any personal attacks, any spam, any advertising, any trolling, or any abuse of the rules will result in your account being removed.
7. Not everyone's first language is English. Be understanding.
Please respect the community and respect each other. We are of many cultures so remember that. Don't assume others understand you are joking, don't belittle anyone for taking offense or being thin skinned.
We are a community for software developers. Leave the egos at the door.
cheers,

I was writing a little bit of code today to replace commas within double quotes enclosed text in a huge string. This string could have multiple segments of double quoted text. I had only written this bit
char[] linechars = line.ToCharArray();
bool isInQuotes = false;
for (int i = 0; i < linechars.Length; i++)
{
if (linechars[i] == '"')
This IDE can read my code and comments and predict the next if statement. This is amazing.
P.S. Before someone points out miserable string handling, I really do not care about code quality. This is a one time use (quick or slow) and dirty utility.

Mostly planning on the normal. Don't really want to celebrate this year.
In other news, my mom is home from the hospital and is on medication.

Excellent! And even more excellent!
I can understand the lack of birthday celebration, but I'm glad it all turned out well for you mother - so celebrate that instead.

Growing older sucks, but is better than the alternative.
Have some sort of celebration when your mother's recovery is complete.

how I got to Wordle 423, I have managed to return to India this morning to continue my rehab therapy.
In the US, the rehab technicians work 5 days a week and that too not effectively. I realized I could hire a personal therapist in India at a far lower cost so I left the US on Aug 14 evening and am in Chennai now.

Welcome back to India. Hope your rehab goes as per your expectation.
Have noticed that courier services like DHL also don't work on weekends in the US. Had sent a parcel to the US via DHL and it was stuck in transit for two days during the weekend. Not so in India.

This is always the hardest part for me, when a pet starts having health problems. We thought we might lose our cat last week over a chronic condition he has. He's on steroids daily because of it as it is, he had a flare up of his condition, which is a digestive inflammation thing and stopped eating, lost a ton of weight.
The condition eventually develops into lymphoma. It's pretty much a given, just a matter of time. He's 11, so he's probably going to die young, and the process is over time so there's some amount of suffering involved even now that he just has to live with. Luckily it's periodic and doesn't seem constant. In any case, I hate having to make the final decision to put a pet down, though sometimes I wish humans were afforded the same dignity. I try to let the pet decide when it's time, but I always second guess myself.
I'm not sure if it's harder on me than the actual death of a pet. Especially never being sure if we did the right thing at the right time.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.
