The ones round here are all tidy folk - happy to help, friendly, willing to take (and make) a joke.
Self-scan Jan can be difficult to understand (she had a stroke about 6 years ago and is still relearning how to talk) but she takes care (and the piss).

Mom-and-pop shops, maybe, but grocery chains around here tend to hire whoever's willing to work for (barely-above) minimum wage. This is the result.

No, I'm talking Tesco and Asda ... Possibly the lack of other jobs around here motivates them, or the Welsh are just generally community minded?

Because you live in a war zone maybe? That might be distracting.
Other than that people are people which mean that normal distributions follow. So most of them do the job in an average way. Some are much better. Some are much worse.
One hopes that for some jobs like heart surgeon and bomb disposal expert that there is more focus than some other jobs but even those in some way are going to follow the normal distribution.

MIL said one time she had to go and get some Durex. What the!!? In this neck of the woods, Durex are known for selling condoms. Scotch tape is the one I'd have recognized. That ah, that was a fun conversation.

And people are much more likely to complain about mistakes than they are to comment on success.
So the mistakes are popularized more.

I run Ubuntu both 18.04 and 22.04 without any problem. Normally I stick to LTS versions to avoid hassle.

If you only need a lightweight Linux, Alpine Linux might be a good choice.
It is used frequently for Docker development and distributions.

I don't think Alpine is officially supported with WSL.
I believe MS's general stance on this sort of thing is among the line of "if it works, great, but if you run into problems, you're on your own".
Which might be fine depending where one is coming from.
