As the title says, there is going to be another BladeRunner movie made. According to this article[^] it will not be a remake but it will either be a sequel or tell a story that precedes the first movie.
I am not sure if this is good news or not. I really enjoyed the first one. The visual atmosphere and soundtrack were top notch. I can't think of a better movie in these respects but several came close. I really hope they can duplicate if not improve on the first in these areas but that will be difficult I think. They do have Ridley Scott on board so that is a very good start. Vangelis has done a bit of work in the not too distant past so maybe they can get him for this movie also.

I'd have to say Alien here.

It was another Ridley Scott movie and very good - on my short list of favorites but I didn't like the soundtrack quite as well as BladeRunner's.

Rather than having an Original Idea they regurgitate old successful formulae.
They use the word Prequel because it is new and exciting.
It will just be a hideous remake of a great film.
The Thing is also having a prequel, but at least in that case there is a back story already set there, as at the beginning of the film the Norwegians are chasing it across the tundra.
There is a straight remake of Total Recall on the cards too.
Funnily enough I have total recall of the first version.

Excellent, that memory implant is still holding then.

Because that always turns out well. Michael Bay being involved as the director.

Thankfully, that's just a spoof site - I like some of the hate filled ranting comments at the bottom of the article though!

Sorry, my post was meant to be a ironic. I just think that Michael Bay is an awful director and has directed some truly awful films.

As long as it's not a remake, I'm willing to see what they do.

I do expect a full movie review after the release.

Well, they can't resurrect Philip K Dick to write the novel basis, so I say it will suck.

I'll disagree and say the fact that it's going to be a Michael Bay story and not P K Dick is the only hope of it sucking less than primary black hole in OJ287[^]. Instead it may only suck as much as the satellite black hole.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I don't think he's really doing it. Isn't that on a joke site?

Yeah I saw! I wasn't happy with it - I only had the anally retentive bit for sure - but it fit the answer so I thought I'd give it a Fair Go, Cobber!

gondwanaland = in Australia perhaps - it helped that they are next door
turn = go
where you would find Bismarck (shortly) = North Dakota = nd
magicians stick = wand
fussily rententive = anal
magicians stick around fussily retentive = wanaland
Big thanks to Griff for giving me the anal bit that set me off on the right track.
I was off on all sorts of tangents till then

The missing c in Bismark had me trying to use G, GER, NE or ON for ages

That was purely my error.
As for the Gondwanans living next door, it is an odd thing.
The Fauna of Australia is very similar to that of PNG, and indeed they are effectively the same country, geologically.
PNG is part of the same landmass, and in times of low sea level was probably land-bridged.
Owing to it's remoteness, no placental mammals lived there until bats flew in and man arrived.
Marsupials formed in South America, and are still common there, but it is Aus that saw the explosion of them into the niches they inhabit today.
NZ was completely different in terms of Flora, Fauna and Evolution, having no mammals whatsoever until about 50,000 years ago.
Geologically different and much newer than Aus and PNG. (Volcanic you see, rose out of the sea much later than Gondwanaland existed.
That is why you have no dangerous animals and yet a whole plethora of stupid looking birds, they evolved into the niches that mammals had everywhere else.
KaKas and Kiwis and Giant Killer Birds (Thankfully extinct), and the oldest living genus in the world, with the longest set of chromosomes.
The fern has >1400 chomosomes, been around a long time!

I just had a response to an answer I - and others - gave back in July (after a week of the same question, asking for a cut'n'paste solution to a complex problem) - basically saying "sorry, you were right - I do need to do some research on this. Where do I start?"
Whoo hoo! They can be taught!
They can learn!
It just takes a couple of weeks to sink in, that's all...

I just had a response from something I posted in May 2010.
My post was an upvote for Danish with a comment of "Good Link".
The response at 8.20 this morning?
It was down voted!
WTF?
Why would someone go to the trouble of downvoting a small complimentary comment 15 months after it was made?
Either someone is an Arse, or they are sniping at me because of their tiny genitalia.
