Is Google Chrome the New IE6?[^]
Do you think it is correct for Google to make certain features work only in Chrome and force people to switch to Chrome?

Repost of a newsletter link, very bad!!!

|
|
|

Well, the insider's header clearly states that "all off-topic, non-news posts will be removed" and I can't find any discussion about this in The Lounge. So this one should be fine.

Excuse me for my improper grammar and typos.
It's because English is my primary language, not my first language.
My first languages are C# and Java.
VB, ASP, JS, PHP and SQL are my second language.
Indonesian came as my third language.
My fourth language? I'm still creating it, I'll let you know when it's done!

Not everybody in the world reads the newsletter, so there's nothing "very bad" about posting a link here.

Not many people read the newsletter, so I just thought I can post it so people can read it and voice their opinions.
Btw, I don't see why people downvoted you for this, anyway, I countered it with a 5.

I see why. BTW I didn't downvote. I just don't downvote. If it's something that I don't like I just ignore it.
That beeing said, IMHO it's getting ridiculos with the repost stuff.
People appologise just in case, I mean OMG & WTF. Are we supposed to search for 30+ minutes before posting something?
I got better things to do like rant here
Not to mention fool around. Now that's productive

If it's a repost of something in thread head post on the first couple of pages, then it's a bit off.
If you have to search 30 pages ago, or remember something from last year... then get a life folks.

could you stop it with the repost warnings.

Is Google Chrome the New IE6? No.
|
|
|
|

It certainly doesn't look as bad today but there is a point.
From what I remember IE6 was not considered nearly as bad as it is today at the time.
If a single webbrowser become predominant then there is a risk.
You're right though, even though something was implemented really badly in chrome today it is really impossible to end up in a IE6 situation because of the automatic update mechanism.
|
|
|
|
|
Not remotely. IE 6 introduced new technologies that were adopted by other browser vendors (AJAX, DHTML). Chrome just introduces new technologies, we'll have to wait and see re. adoption.
OTOH, I can't see Chrome users insisting on using a version that was released 10 years ago, in spite of updates being available to at least three more recent versions. If that does happen, I suspect Google won't get blamed.
I think if the W3C had a better approach to evolving the standards, then this situation may not occur. Do we really expect browsers to stagnate while they muddle through?
Chrome tech's may be viewed as a bit like .NET tech's - open in principle, but other vendors will never be able to track them as well as the original maintainers. So Google will always have competitive edge on them.
|
|
|
|
|
Innovations do not occur when everyone plays by the rules.
In the end the wisdom of crowds will decide whether other browsers will follow or ignore it.

I posted this last night on a mailing list made up of a sub-subset of CP members, only one of them replied and he could barely spell camera. So here I am regurgitating adnauseum for y'all to put your two cents in.
OK all you camera aficionados, I looking to buy my wife a digital camera for her birthday on Boxing Day (OK, I'll probably buy it this week and give it to her when I get home Friday night).
I've done a bit of research (OK, 30 minutes of Google) and have found the following camera -
Fuji Finepix F550 EXR at Ted's Camera's[^]
Fuji Finepix F550 EXR at FujiFilm website[^]
Is this any good?
I'm looking for something a bit bigger than a compact, decent optical zoom, SD card, big LCD, good resolution and able to take good to great photos by someone with little clue on taking photos.
I'm happy for others to be recommended and am hoping to keep it around AUD$400.00.

For what it's worth from another someone with little clue on taking photos:
Fujifilm's innovative hybrid autofocus system that the company claims is as fast as that on DSLRs
That sounds very good. Autofocus speed is my biggest complaint about my camera even if I know I'm not even using it to half its capabilities.

Autofocus is evil; Ansel Adams never used it.

Wish I could give specifics about the camera itself but I can't.
I do have another thought to add, though.
I really liked it when I had a tripod to go with my camera and miss it with my cell-phone camera.
If you have a few bucks left over you might want to consider accessories that make the camera more functional in the way that she would use it. Maybe not a tripod, but a decent bag if she hikes, that kind of thing.
Or you could bookmark that idea for a future present.

Thanks for the ideas, I have a tripod in the wardrobe from my old SLR that will work with this and I am already planning to buy the SDHC Card and camera bag to go with it. Will think of anything else that may be useful to get at a later date.

My wife is interested in the Nikon N1 (or whatever it is) -- or maybe the idiot doing the ads for it.

I've heard Nikon's have great optics... but couldn't tell you for sure... read my other post[^].

Wish I could help... but I too know nothing about cameras except that I pick all the wrong ones (don't buy Sony cameras ).
