I vote for 2013
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.-John Q. Adams You must accept one of two basic premises: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not alone in the universe. And either way, the implications are staggering.-Wernher von Braun Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.-Albert Einstein

I'm actually just considering this question myself... I'll be updating from VS2008. With their new development cycle, it's going to be hard to keep up with their releases (seem to remember some indication that they were pushing for one release per year).

For example SQL Server Compact Edition support is gone in 2013 so be careful with legacy projects.

I bet there's a joke in there about vintage and whether VS has legs or an oakey finish, but I'm too tired to come up with it.
Probably already in the thread anyway, I didn't read all the responses.
To answer Nagy's question, I'm on 2010, so can't give an opinion about 12 vs 13.

Wait until 2014, because, you know, 2013 is so last year...

2013 has a lot of features that help my productivity, but it takes more of an ubermachine to run than 2012.
We can program with only 1's, but if all you've got are zeros, you've got nothing.

For my own development I've stayed with VS2008. I use 2010 at the office but that's as far as I've gone with it. VS2008 Standard with Active Reports 6 and the Sandcastle help builder makes a dynamite development environment. I put a little under $1000 into those things a few years back and I have not run into any glass ceilings or anything that make me even remotely interested in an upgrade.

Yes there is an update in the .net for VS2013 to confirm that post I like 2012 and 2013 the intellisense in C++ for myself I suppose that's preference though and the snippets features are improved also I use the snippets designer to add them I suppose you could just manipulate the XML yourself Microsoft explains the method on developer site. All in all there are more features to choose from but I'm still not sold that 2013 is that much better. I'm sure I'll discover more features and decide it is but either of them are improvement over 2010.

Havn't tried m or VS2013 - they don't work on XP and VS2010 is really crap in terms of performance. No difference between 2008 and 2010 on a fast laptop but try a netbook and you will really see the difference. 2008 starts in 15s: 2010 takes 2 minutes! i.e. as long as eclipse! I'll stick to 2008 for now even though it doesn't do C++11.

Movie Quote Of The Day
A: Excuse me bro', but who the f*** are you?
B: I'm the one tellin' you how it is..
Which movie?
|
|
|
|
|
That's easy:
A is one of our customers and B is me!
What does "movies" have to do with that?

Let me guess: You're not in development, you're in sales, right?

Oh no, I'm in development alright. Problem is, we only have one customer at the moment :/

Nope - some of them are intelligent, reasonable people who pay their bills on time!
Most of those are fictional, yes - but you do get good ones from time to time.
