Post this in the Backroom and I will gladly tell you the REAL difference between 15 and 50.

Sounds kind of scary; my guess is, you're going to say something like, "It takes me all night to do what I used to do all night."

Given I am now the driver for my mom (88), I see what you mean. She will only drive a few miles from home now but I worry when she does.

B. Clay Shannon wrote: When you are 15, you feel safe riding in the car with your dad driving, but he doesn't return the sentiment - he is as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs when you're driving.
Your dad was letting you drive at 15?
On public roads?
No wonder he was nervous. Was he looking for cops?

My dad *was* a cop (CHP)> Search for "Shannon" here) and you will find him (Theodore R. Shannon). 15 is (was?) the age for driving permits.

Your father seems like a damn fine officer.
The United States invariably does the right thing, after having exhausted every other alternative. -Winston Churchill
America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between. -Oscar Wilde

Thanks; I still remember that day well; his eyebrows were singed off, and he was coughing from smoke inhalation, but he didn't seem to consider what he had done such a big deal - just doing his job.

I remember taking my Mother out for lunch and as we were walking to the restruant we were chatting. All of a sudden she steps off the curb onto the roadway where there were a lot of cars going by.
I took hold of her arm so she couldn't wander into traffic and told her to look both ways before stepping out onto the road.
At that moment I had memories of her telling me the exact same thing when I was a small boy.
I realized then that the roles had reversed and things would never be as I remembered them. The circle of life had indeed turned.
Once you lose your pride the rest is easy.
In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you. – Buddha

Pretty soon there will be a growing sense of resentmint.
