I have a fairly beefy laptop (16GB ram, Ryzen R7) but only 256 GB m2 drive.
I only have 18GB disk space left.
MS is offering Win11 to me and it says "download & install" and I'm wondering if :
1. the download for upgrade is going to fit?
2. once it upgrades, if I'll still have about as much space left (or if win11 takes a lot more space)?
Any hints, suggestions, comments or warnings?

I personally would not upgrade anything to windows 11. If you have win 10, keep it at win 10.
if you are not too poor to get a new laptop, then get a new laptop with win 11 already installed.

I'd suggest that getting a bigger SSD sooner rather than later would be a good idea - clone the existing one over and then upgrade. That way if you have problems the old SSD is sitting there as a backup ready to run in minutes.
18GB isn't a lot of free space nowadays ... AOMEI Backupper has a clone feature that works pretty well.

Obituary - The Wrong Time[^]
I've been pretty busy yesterday, but better late than never!
Obituary is a legendary death metal band, and as such I've known their name for about twenty years, but never really listened to them.
Their new album got good reviews and one magazine even called it their best release in their nearly 40-year history, so I decided to give it a listen.
Since they're from Florida I expected it to be like Morbid Angel or Cannibal Corpse, but I was pleasantly surprised!
I certainly did not expect mid-tempo and groovy death metal.
The album's been on repeat ever since.

coldest day here in upstate New York in a long time.
My boiler at the house is working its butt off to keep us warm at 65 degrees F.
Fireplace in the game room is roaring.
Old house with base-board heating - ugh.
I just noticed that the brass front door hinges are frosted over completely white on the inside of the house. Some of the windows where the seal is not so tight is frosted over as well inside the house. One can only guess how much energy I am losing to these poor seals and cracks. You win some and you lose some - it could be a lot worse.

The wind chill here in Ottawa was -40 yesterday. That's the temperature at which C and F coincide.

In Montreal area, we currently have -30 (wind chill -41). But cheer up: in Resolute is "only" -34 so it cannot get much worse

The Windows 11 "taskbar" is a disgrace. It should be at the left of the screen, with real icons, with text, with progress, etc.
So I declined the "upgrade" to Abomination 11.
I can only hope they will continue to honor my choice...
