#1 - Get knowledge about the current status quo, there is a lot of variance and I don't know every permutation
#2 - Trying to get a good feedback from management about which direction do they want to take
#3 - Organize things in "can die a natural death", "it needs a double tap", "we need this and we have to take it with us"
#4 - Once the system has been cleaned up from zombies and not needed stuff, start working out how to improve it
#5 - We'll see when we come there...

I hope you like drawing pictures; I don't know how you pull it off otherwise.
(Mine were used to outsource me in the end ... no problem, got paid a bonus to stick around for the extra 6 months to educate the replacements).

Visio and hyperlinks are your friend.
(If they would have kept me on, I would have had to go to Toronto ... lose-lose).

I have to say, that MindManager looks not that bad. I haven't used it much yet, but I think it could be a nice tool too.

Hi All,
I am having fun (for me) working on developing a temperature monitor for some bits of kit we have that don't have one, Crack the knuckles, Design the PCB & write the code for the PIC in C on Notepad++... No Intellisense, no way of quickly checking syntax programming like it was meant to be!

Notepad++ is a luxury editor. You should use vi instead.
