I can understand your frustration Vaclav. At first it can seem daunting, but it really is mostly a matter of navigating through a bunch of COM interfaces. Once you get past that, it is not that bad.

Assuming you have read or at least skimmed through the DirectShow Reference[^], I would advice you to get your feet wet using this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd377566(v=vs.85).aspx[^]
And move on to this page: http://www.geekpage.jp/en/programming/directshow[^] - go to the "Video Capture" section.
