I just remembered seeing this Tip posted recently: Find IP address in a Metro app (Windows 8)[^].
I know that from the title it does not seem to be what you are looking for, but read through the comments and see if it can help you get what you need. I don't have Windows 8 running, so I cannot test it out.

Hello, i am making a project for Windows 8 Metro that requires to log in in a local device that have a web interface, for example my router. On the webbrowser control in visual basic i was using http://username:email@example.com/ to navigate but in the webview i get a COMException error.
Anyone have an idea how to fix it or another way to do this task?
Its working on all browsers except the webview. On webpages that required authendication but dont have login form the browser pops up a window where you put the username and password (dont know the name of that login method), with that url u log automaticaly.
Hi guys... I'm just starting with Windows 8/Metro... I'm trying to figure out how to get a list of drives on the machine. The MSDN says Environment.GetLogicalDrives should work or System.IO.Directory.GetLogicalDrives but I can't seem to find either. I assume the framework for Metro apps is limited similar to how Silverlight is a subset of the .Net libraries... Anyone have any idea how to do this?
