Well, you can use something like dotPeek to disassemble mscorlib which is where the Array class is defined. I've been doing that since I wrote my first answer, and it does look like it's going completely native where longs are concerned.

Have a look at this, which bears striking resemblance to your question:

They key point in all this is although the algorithm is the same, it can reduce the comparison to a single cpu instruction (of one or two) for types of long.
