I haven't worn a regular watch for twenty years or more. For many years I kept a cheap calculator watch in my pocket, but I stopped caryying that when I got a phone with a calculator.
If I got a smart watch, I'd want to carry it in my pocket.  I don't want something around my wrist.

Why not just strap a smart-phone to your arm? Maybe with elastic bands. Better screen than the watch.
I like watches, always have but unless the smart watch can project a screen or interface at least as big as my smart phone I don't see the point.

Only if it replaces my phone 100%, even then a big IF. Or acts as a emergency phone/tracker for my kids in elementary school. This whole "connect to your phone" thing is for the birds.

I hate watches and all kinds of jewels or stuff that are around my wrist or neck or finger... I just can't stand jewels (including watches).
So the day I had a phone which could tell me what time it is, I stopped wearing (or carrying in a Pocket most of the time) a Watch.

I'll explain, since I seem to be in the overwhelming minority. I use my iPhone for just about everything. I love it. I'm a busy guy, taking care of an elderly mom, a disabled brother, and two big active boys. Besides working full-time as a programmer, I'm constantly driving and shopping and running errands and fielding phone calls and text messages. My iPhone is invaluable while managing all this and I find myself CONSTANTLY fishing it out of my pocket. Not a huge deal, but when I'm driving, this is a serious pain, and even a bit dangerous, when all I want to do sometimes is see if I need to answer the phone or see who's texting me or glance at the date/time. Just those features alone would probably be worth the price of an iWatch. But if it does any of the other things it should be able to do (e.g., pause or skip the track while listening to music, quickly check weather, voice activate and quickly record some thoughts, etc.), I'd be a very, very happy camper.

Off-topic:
What would you say if a guy like you overruns your kids with his car while grabbing his phone or while texting or while being distracted by a "smart-watch"?! I don't want to appear as a moralist, but such behaviour is criminal negligence. To consider (if sanity does not help): judges and insurance companies check the phone trafic when it comes to a liability case.

Always a good point to consider. Of course there are irresponsible people out there who allow themselves to be dangerously distracted while driving. I do not fancy myself to be one of them. I do NOT text and drive and am usually hands-free calling. I see glancing at a smart watch while driving no more dangerous than glancing at the speedometer, and in fact quite a bit safer than what I see a lot of other people doing (staring into their laps at their phones).

I don't see the point and purpose for the "smart watch". I have a phone for work and that's about all I need. To me, this would be as intrusive as my phone can be at times.

If I didn't I wouldn't wear a smart watch...now a smart arm I could use.

So if there were at least one thing that it does that genuinely improves my quality of life or has a striking difference on the way I do something then I'd give it some consideration.
But the question remains.....
What does a smart watch give me that my smart phone does not?
Although... if I could find a really cheap one that can be used as a tracking device for my daughter when she gets older..... then maybe.

If Smart == Phone, then no.
I have a Garmin sports watch which is great (I'm not sure about it's water resistance though), but if it had a calendar that I could sync with my desktop. I'd switch to it perminantly.
Not talking about an "alarm" to wake me up in the morning, but rather actual events/meetings etc.
