From SmartWatch To RichManWatch since only rich man will buy them
Well, that depends on the definition of rich. I'm not, but I could buy me one, if I wanted to (I don't want). They aren' so expensive: 150€ to 300€. A Smartphone isn't much cheaper (and some are more expensive).
No, a Rolex is an investment - it tells the time, and can also appreciate in value. A genuine Rolex also implies something positive about you when people meet you for the first time.
That's not really true. Watches are a terrible investment, trust me I'm a collector. Rolexes hold value well due to the fact that they hold down production to keep supply low and they market them as the rich person's watch (they aren't, that's Patek), but they barely keep up with inflation as an investment. If you don't believe me, look at what vintage Rolexes cost now, compare to the original sale value, and adjust for inflation.
Also, Rolexes only impress people who don't know watches and can't afford a Rolex. They are the watch upper middle class people buy for status, and they only impress other middle class people who want to look like they have money. But they are great watches aside from inflated prices and ridiculous marketing.
Right now I'm wearing an Illinois Andover from the 1930s. It's a very dumb watch. It's also working as well as it did 80 years ago, and will still be running strong after all the smart watches are in landfills.
Watches are great for glancing at the time without having to free your hand and fumble around in your pocket. Other than that though, I'd rather pull out a phone. I sure as hell don't want my wrist shouting out notifications every time I get a spam email.
Now, if these new smart watches came with hacking movements...
for me smart watches had their opportunity and that was back when calculator watches were the big thing. I am that person however who only wears a wedding ring and on occasion my fraternity ring but aside from that I am happy being jewelry free.
