Hmm. I think I was born (or at least picked it up at a young age and in most cases without reading instructions at all) with the ability to fix all of that and a lot more. Although we did not have much blinking washing machines in the 70s.

It is the major issue with 90% of Indian IT companies (Don't know much about work culture of companies in other part of the world). I faced the same situation for at least 2 years and now, All is well.
You should look for rest of the 10%

I actually enjoyed heavy lifting.
As for programming. I enjoy the design aspect the most and the maintenance long hours and deadlines the least.
