The TLDR is I need a bigger desk to take my current 2x 20" 1200x1600 monitors flanking a 32" 4k one and replace one of the side screens with the 30" 2560x1600 display that used to be my primary. Higher still is possible; from prior experience I don't see myself being able to put 4 displays to good use at once. Unfortunately my 1600p is a decade old and thus DVI only and will probably be forced into retirement when I upgrade my GPU because Dl-DVI to HDMI/DP is an expensive buggy garbage fire (the $20 dongles won't work at all even if they claim the resolution, and the $70-120 ones are buggier than the code posted to QA); if that happens I'll have to buy a 2nd 4k monitor to replace it for 8880x2160.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies.

Step 1: Remove cat from bed
Step 2: Grab the bed linnen firmly with one hand with the intention of making the bed while trying to keep the cat on the floor with the other hand...
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 infinitely until the cat gets tired and falls asleep somewhere else

Last June I said, alright that does it, I wanna play the fiddle too. I'm an old accomplished lead guitar player, how hard could it be.
Well, I bought an cheap cheap electric violin nobody could hear and have been at it since then and got a new nice bow for Christmas and an acoustic violin but that's too LOUD for squeaky scratchy me, so it's in it's case till I get better. I spent the whole Christmas season playing Christmas hymns because they are slow legato and right in my wheel house. But last night I was able to do a genuine fiddle turn around lick, so onward and upward.
I've spent the last few days writing my CV and a candidature.
After 10 years (!!) of ranting that new boss finally did what no one else accomplished before: get me past the point of looking for another job.
*starting rant mode*
Just imagine your software gets some payload (image) from a hardware device (camera) via ethernet. Sometimes that payload gets lost on the wire and you've spent the last five months collecting evidence it's the wire and not your software (yeah, where I work, it's always the software's fault). On your way proving you added a information called “timestamp“ to the collected data from that device (and found it nice the device offers such debugging information).
Unfortunately the documentation says it's an integer, that timestamp, but you see soon enough, it should have been a long as in your little C# reality (accessible via logfile) it's a long number constantly toggling sign. You think who cares, it's equidistant, the device works fine. You leave it like this. In your source code.
Now imagine your new electrotechnician boss who at some point in university had a C lesson. (Hint: RUN).
He looks into your logfiles (!) using grep (!!!). Who would have known, he doesn't understand the results o.O So he let's you explain line by line step by step what that logfile tries to say.
Two damn long hours later he knows why you're losing information o.O o.O o.O
There are bits falling over!!! (Original quote new boss)
Damn, how could I have missed that. Sure I'm losing information from that hardware device, as I'm taking some additional debugging information from the RAM of the PC (where it already is) and write it on .NET into the wrong data type - for sure it moves back in time and space back onto the wire where it knocks down all my precious payload. How could I have missed that?!
My cynical comment that I could simply remove that timestamp from the log went unnoticed - as well as all my other cynical comments in the last weeks :-/ So he stood in my back whilst I had to change that int to a long and do a rollout (stopping 8 running industry machines à 10 minutes).
Just imagine - the problem didn't go away! What a surprise!
So he spent the next days (<- plural) letting me explain (in pictures) what would have been my next steps (increase IP packet size of payload to get a stabler connection)
Then several days explaining him the source code (“I'm not interested in what Michael coded, I want to see your code - so where is that image in your code?“ - ending up at Michaels desk because he didn't understand what “my“ code does because it, well, uses Michaels code)
Then all in all after two weeks getting the hint from Michael (“yesterday he asked me where in that source code are those IP packets you're always talking about“ *AAAAAHHHH*)
(And that was just a summary, he has been plaguing me eight weeks by now)
If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
... to not make resolutions, and so far I have kept it.
In fact, I can no longer make any new year resolutions, for fear of generating a paradox (or even a pair'o'doxies) which could easily tear apart the whole fabric of the space time continuum.
And if I did that, Herself would make me clean up the mess.

I thought about upgrading my 30" Dell, but then thought do I really need it......it still works fine, so I'm staying on 2560x1600 for the time being. Although I have got a spare 46" LCD tv now in my office, so will maybe sling a cable into it as a secondary display. The previous tenant also left a 32" LCD in the villa, so will maybe see if it works as well!
